Our list of Ayurvedic herbs consists of the name of the herbs with Botanical, Sanskrit, and Common Names are followed by a summary of useful information: the parts of the plants that are used, ayurvedic properties & action on dosha.

A Note to Dosage for Ayurvedic Herbs

Throughout this topic / chapter the dosages are given in metric. Below are some simple conversions:

5 ml = 1  teas poon,

15 ml = 1  table spoon/½ fl oz,

25 ml = 1 fl oz,

100  ml = 3½ fl oz

3 gm = ½  tea spoon,

5 gm  = 1 tea spoon / ¼ oz,

15 gm  = 1  tables poon / ½ oz,

25 gm = I  oz, 50 gm = 2 oz

  1. AMLA [ Emblica Officinalis] – A Small and Medium Sized tree excellent source of vit. C, E, A, iron and calcium. it is a small evergreen shrub. It grows in India. Amla have antioxidant properties, Amla gives  healthy and glowing skin but also improves eye sight.

  1. HARITAKI [TERMINALIA CHEBULA] – Haritaki also known as the king of herbs, that kills all diseases, remove all waste from the body and maintain tissue health and growth. Haritaki is rich in vitamin C and found to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Haritaki is one of the best ayurvedic herbs in our list.

3. BIBHITAKI [terminalia belerica]  –  The next Ayurvedic herb in our herbs list is Bibhitaki. It is an good remedy for catarrhal condition, congestion,  bronchitis, asthma, and sore throats. A good tonic for eye. It is found throughout India. Bibhitaki one of the three fruits, in Ayurvedic preparation Triphala.

    3-A. TRIPHALA – TRI – THREE , PHALA – FRUITS, that means it is a combination of three ayurvedic fruits , amalaki , bibhitaki, and haritaki. triphala balances  and support all three dosha in the body. Triphala detoxifies the body and removes toxins. Triphala is also one of the best Ayurvedic herbs in our list. Triphala also helps boost your immunity, rich in vitamin E and C.

SHUNTHI [ zingiber officinale ] – The next herb in our list of Ayurvedic Hersb is Shunthi which is also known in Botany with the name of Zingiber officinale, is quite a recognized Ayurvedic herb. Drying of ginger after its processing with the help of lime water,  Sonth is prepared. commonly used ingredient in Trikatu powder.

    5.PIPPALI [ piper longum ]  – The roots and fruits of Pippali are used for its medicinal purposes.  Long pepper having properties like antioxidant, decongestant,  expectorant, warming, analgesic.

Ashwagandha as a Rasayana that increase longevity and vitality. It is used to increase sexual capacity as an aphrodisiac. This herb reduces anxiety and stress, and helps fight aganist depression.

Cinnamon is mainly used as aromatic spice with medicinal properties and it Lowers Blood Sugar Levels and has a  Anti-Diabetic Effect. Dalchini is one of the herb in our Ayurvedic herb list that is loaded with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

        Dosage- The  dosage of dry root powder – 1 to 5 grams. The fresh juice  dose – 3-6 teaspoon.

        13. GUDUCHI [ TINOSPORA CORDIFOLIA ] – It is an antipyretic herb. It is found in  large amount  in India. Giloy is a very important, and extensively used Ayurvedic medicinal herbs, treat chronic cases of fever. It increases body immunity against diseases. It removes toxins from the body. It ia also having antioxidant and anit-ageing properties.

MARICH [PIPER NIGRUM] – The next herb in our Ayurvedic herbs list is Piper Nigrum which is also known as black pepper.  black pepper has carminative action and used in flatulence, bloating, indigestion and gas. It lowers  the cholesterol level. It is used in management of hyperthyroidism.

        16. Cardamom  [Ellettaria cardamomum] – Hindi name – Chotti Elaichi and English name – Lesser Cardamomum

        Mainly grown in south india. green in colour, elaichi is coolant and  are used as flavouring. Also provide relief from improper digestion, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Cardamom has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial property.

        17. KALMEGHA [Andrographis paniculata] – Next in our Ayurvedic herbs list is Kalmegha. It is also known as green chiretta. it is good for liver . kalmegha have properties like antibiotic, antinflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial. it is a good blood purifier. It is found throughout the plains and hills of tropical India, it is awell known ayurvedic drug for its bitter taste.

Arjuna has anti- asthmatic, diuretic, astrigent, antacid, Antihypertensive,  Antioxidant and antifever properties. Its bark is grey and smooth. Arjuna contains minerals like calcium, Tannins and magnesium etc. It is also prevent from heart attack. So in conclusion Arjuna is also one of the best Ayruvedic herbs in our list.

The outer cover of bael fruit is a very hard. bael contains tannins, steroid, phenols , vit c, b1, b2, copper, magnesium, iron etc. it is also helps in boosting immunity. bael have antioxidant, antiviral, anti diabetic , anti bacterial, mild laxative properties. it is also used in the treatment of numerous  gut disease. it is found may parts of india, rajasthan.

        20. NEEM [ Azadirachta indica ] – It is known for its bitter taste. The plant is found throughout India. Azadirachtin present in neem  is the  active insecticidal component of neem, Neem used against various infectious diseases. Neem leaves have good blood purifying property, therefore use in pimples, acne, and marks. Neem known for its  Antiageing, antifungal ,anti inflammatory, antibacterial, rejuvenator, anti viral , detoxifying properties. Neem is also an important herb in Ayurvedic herbs list that contains the  fatty acids, which also prevent  wound healing.

SHALLAKI [ BOSWELLIA SERRATA] –  Shallaki tree is native to India , mainly in punjab and maharashtra.  the medicinal product  of  this tree is its resin,  A single tree can produce about one to two kilograms of gum in a year. Shallaki extensively in the treatment of painful joint diseases and muscular pain. shallaki have anti-inflammatory properties.it improves brain function.

It  has an antioxidant, Antacid, antimicrobial, Antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, Antiulcer, Expectorant, Laxative and hepatoprotective properties.         29. SHILAJEET [ black bitumen]  –  It is fournd in rock of the himlayas. In summer when the rocks are warmed this mineral comes out from them. It is  blackish-brown in colour. The rock’s discharge contains only fifty percent Shilajit and the rest is impurities. The impurities are removed mentioned in ayurveda , and Shilajit thus obtained is known as Shuddha Shilajit. it give the smell of cow’s urine. it is famous for treat sexual debility, by  increases sperm count. it also slows down the process of aging .
