Coronavirus Blood Clots

 BLOOD CLOTS

If we focus on what is Blood Clotting, then in simple words blood clotting is something that helps to stop bleeding when someone is injured. But when blood clots form in absence of any injury that is quite dangerous because it can restrict the flow of blood within the blood vessels and that can result in stroke or heart attack.

BLOOD CLOTS IN COVID-19

In Covid-19, this clotting problem occurs within the lungs and in form of tiny vessels of the lungs. There is a reason behind blood clotting and that reason is whenever there is an injury, to stop the excessive blood loss, several blood changes to a semi-solid state and that is known as natural blood clotting. But this can also result in something critical when a clot forms inside a vein and blocks the blood flow.
COVID-19 patients who are also suffering from type-2 Diabetes Mellitus disorder are at high risk of Blood clot formation.

TYPES OF BLOOD CLOTTING

There are three types of Blood Clotting and those are DVT, Arterial thrombosis, and PE (Pulmonary Embolism).

  • DVT – DVT states for Deep Vein Thrombosis, is a serious problem that occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein located deep inside your body. In this clotting, the person may experience pain and tenderness while walking or in a standing position. In this condition, the vein carries the blood (low in Oxygen) from the body back to the heart.
  • Arterial thrombosis – As the name suggested Arterial thrombosis is a clot that grows in an artery. This blood clotting is vice versa of DVT because these arteries carry blood (rich in oxygen) apart from the heart to the body. This is a quite dangerous form of clotting because it may stop the flow of blood to major organs
  • PE-PE Stands for Pulmonary Embolism, this is the most unique type of blood clotting, in this blood clot walks to the lungs. This blood clot occurs in a blood vessel in the body. After that, it reaches a lung artery where it stops the blood flows.
