There could be various reasons which cause Conjunctivitis such as:-
Viruses – It is really hard to avoid the contact of hands with eyes but doing so can lead to serious infection. If your hands are contaminated with the virus and you touch your eyes with those hands then there will be sure chances of the virus to spread in your eyes.
Bacteria – Bacteria conjunctivitis can easily spread from person to person or from hand to eye and this can cause an eye infection.
The eyes are the most sensitive organ of the body which needs extra sensitive care but being careless and not having a neat and clean routine may sometimes affect our eyes for example using unclean eye makeup or sharing eye makeup products with others may cause conjunctivitis in the eyes.
If some things enter into the eyes which are not good enough for sensitive eyes, that can also cause eye infections like while washing hair, shampoo may get into the eyes which cause irritation, redness, and itching in the eyes, smoke and dirt may also create the same issue because both things are irritating for eyes.
Some people are allergic to few things like smoke, dust, and pollen, and if they come in contact with these things their eyes automatically get affected by them and this can be the reason for causing eye infection that is conjunctivitis.
Sometimes people use eye drops without concerning their doctor and those eye drops may cause infection if that doesn’t shoot to their eyes.
Fungi – When we are talking about the eyes then there are two types of fungal infection one is exogenous that comes in contact with eyes from an external source and endogenous that occurs from bloodstream infection and can easily spread in both the eyes.

AYURVEDA
According to Ayurveda, conjunctivitis is related to netrabhishyanda. If we consider Ayurveda science then it generally occurs because of the imbalance of pitta and Kapha doshas. Netra means eyes and abhishyanda means moist field. Eyes are the site of fire element but if Kapha dosha gets annoyed in the eye it starts attacking the pitta in the eyes and fire here means pitta whereas dosha here means water. These all conditions result in redness of eyes, watery, yellow discharge, and inflammation and this is known as netrabhishyanda.
