What is Shortness of Breath?
When there is difficulty in breathing for example when a person is not comfortable fully get the oxygen easily into his or her lungs that is what we call shortness of breath.
In medical term shortness of breath is known as Dyspnea, it feels like nothing but difficulty while the air from outside air is getting in. In this case, there are chances that your chest may feel contracted to inhale or exhale fully. There are various reasons for shortness of breath like running at a speed, effortful workout, and rise in temperature and climbing to high peak these all activities leads to shortness of breath. This breathing issue not only occurs when you indulge yourself in some physical activity but even when you are sitting at your chair table and this happens because of bad posture.
Shortness of Breath is not because of any underlying disease but it is because of effortful physical activity and even wearing tight clothes may also lead to this problem.
COVID-19 AND SHORTNESS OF BREATH
Shortness of breath is one of the most common symptoms in Covid-19. The new coronavirus that is causing the disease is known as SARS-CoV-2. This doesn’t mean that everyone who is suffering from Covid-19 will face this issue of shortness of breath. But like other diseases that lead to shortness of breath, this symptom can result in covid-19 and raise very quickly in people.
According to a report, only 30% to 40% covid-19 positive people were found with this symptom of shortness of breath. The flow of oxygen in the body is “First the oxygen from alveoli goes into tiny blood vessels capillaries and from there oxygen is carried to the rest of the body. But when a person is suffering from covid-19, this oxygen flow gets disturbed. White blood cells release molecules called cytokines, which in turn produce more immune cells to hit SARS-COV-2 infected cells.
Whenever any disease, virus or bacteria attack your body in any way, there is always the immune system that fights back to protect your body from that disease or infection. That fight between your immune system and the virus leaves behind pus, and that pus contains, excess waste fluid and dead cells in your lungs.
All covid-19 symptoms or health issues are mostly related to breathing or respiratory tract but that doesn’t mean all of them. The whole process that is described above results in health issues regarding respiratory tract symptoms such as coughing, fever and shortness of breath.

ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA
According to Ayurveda, the reason behind shortness of breath is because of high Kapha which is sometimes considered a Vata condition. Whenever you feel shortness of breath because of high Kapha that time circulation is also weaken down and the heart and lungs both work hard to carry oxygen to all the body cells. Kapha blood is very dense and sweet which is very difficult to circulate and block the vascular system. This whole process leads to blocking arteries and especially the arteries of the heart which can cause shortness of breath.
Apart from all this defective Vata is also one of the main reasons that cause shortness of breath and if under any condition a person feels fatigued, muscle weakness with shortness of breath then it is because of Vata type deficiency.
